National Education Day is celebrated on 11 November every year. This day highlights the importance of education in shaping India’s future. The Government of India formally recognised Azad’s contributions by declaring November 11, 2008, as Nation Education Day. The day is also seen as an occasion to remember Azad’s contributions in laying the foundation of the education system in an Independent India, and evaluating and improving the country’s current performance in the field.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad is the first Education Minister of Independent India, who served from 15 August 1947 until 2 February 1958. The Ministry of human resources development announced on 11 September 2008, The Ministry has decided to commemorate the birth day of this great son of India by recalling his contribution to the cause of education in India. November 11 every year, from 2008 onwards, will be celebrated as the National Education Day , with declaring it as a holiday.
All education institutions in the country mark the day with seminars, symposia, essay writing, elocution compititions, workshops and rallies with banner cards and slogans on the importance of literacy and the nation’s commitment to all aspects of education.
It creates awareness with respect to the importance of education, which is a human right , and the role it has played in empowering individuals. It is the time for reflection upon the progress made in the education sector while dealing with present day challenges. These events often include motivational speeches, seminars, and essay writing events, keeping the students and teachers inspired.
